About the Class
Meisner & Beyond is a class for the actor who seeks more depth in the techniques of acting. This class will have an in-depth study of the technique developed by Sanford Meisner; to get actors out of their head and create real emotion in imaginary circumstances. Film/tv actors and theatrical actors, alike, praise this technique for bringing their craft to the next level.
We will also take an overview approach of many of the other founders of modern acting techniques; Konstantin Stanislavsky, Uta Hagen, Stella Adler and more. By studying many techniques you will get to adapt your own approach and have the ability to utilize what works best in different situations (ex. stage, set, or auditions).
Who should take Meisner & Beyond?
Meisner & Beyond is an advanced class intended for those who have had formal training in the foundational and working elements of acting. For those who have an understanding of the business side of acting and are looking to grow in the craft.
Meisner & Beyond is an exploratory class, meaning that our goal is to help advanced students build a brand by guiding them to identify the techniques that work- and don’t work- for them personally. Each student will have the opportunity to implement the elements of each technique as they focus on building their own personal brand.
This class is for ages 16 to adult.
What can students expect?
Meisner & Beyond is a 2.5 hour long class with a dual-technique layout. Each class will include a deep dive into Meisner’s techniques, as well as a lesson and exercise into other classical techniques; such as Uta Hagen and Konstantin Stanislavski. Students will also practice mindfulness through breathing and stretching exercises meant to improve both mind and body.
Over the course of the year, students will transition from honing classical skills to the challenge of applying these techniques to film acting. This class will have monthly recordings to track the student’s progress, as well as regular feedback and quarterly assessments.
